Fact of the Day: The first Aussies to conquer the music industry​

Long before AC/DC, INXS, and Men at Work had global chart success, a little-known band named after a road sign in regional Victoria set the precedent for the rock’n’roll dream.

Little River Band might be from Melbourne, but they officially formed in 1975 while in England. It was during this time they met Brisbane-born manager Glenn Wheatley who took them from underground to mainstream in four years.

They got a record label deal in Australia with EMI and signed with Capitol Records in the USA by 1979.

The Easybeats, along with Billy Thorpe & the Aztecs, The Loved Ones, The Masters Apprentices, Max Merritt and The Meteors and Doug Parkinson In Focus all predated the Little River Band by a good margin.

Mid to late 60s is my recollection of most of these. The only one I can't remember is The Loved Ones.

This may rekindle your memories. INXS did a cover in the early 1980s,

Thanks Veggiepatch. I remember the song very well. That was my 1st year in Australia. There may have been too many bands and names to remember!
