Laminex Kitchen

When did your family ‘go modern’ and get their first Laminex kitchen? Back in the ’50s, it was the height of style — green and cream were the darlings of the day, with Laminex promising ‘a thrilling zipp of freshness’. Some families even went bolder, like our bright yellow table and chrome-legged chairs in ’58.

Yes I remember in the mid 1970s. We got a new laminate kitchen.
Bright orange!

I remember my great-grandmother's kitchen - the same green Laminex as above with a kitchen table the same Laminex green top.

In the 50's it was the way to update your kitchen with laminex benchtops and tables. Memories.

We bought a lovely cupboard in 1979 and the laminex was chipped and worn so we removed it and replaced it with a bright orange with a fleck through it then painted the timber cream . Everyone commented how good it looked and we had the cupboard for over 8 years . It was originally brown all over .

I grew up in the late 50s/early 60s, so cream and green, of course, to match the Metters stoves and the Electrolux? fridge! Same green with cream 'marbles table and chairs with bent chrome legs. Red and white checked curtains!
