On 27 August 1896, Britain and the Sultanate of Zanzibar went to war… and it was over before most people finished breakfast. Lasting just 38 to 45 minutes, the Anglo-Zanzibar War holds the record as the shortest war in history. Zanzibar suffered heavy losses, while Britain walked away almost untouched.
