You’ve watched prices rise for years—but this one’s left shoppers fuming

ALDI shoppers have been left reeling by the sudden price surge of one of their most beloved bargain buys.

What used to be a reliable $14.99 pantry staple has now crept dangerously close to the $20 mark.

And for those who rely on their morning brew to survive the daily grind, the timing couldn’t be worse.

In a post shared on social media, a concerned customer highlighted the latest price hike for ALDI's Lazzio coffee beans.

‘Another big price rise. It was $14.99 last week,’ they wrote, alongside a shelf photo showing the new price tag: $19.99.

The 1kg Lazzio Medium coffee beans now sit at $19.99, while the Dark variety is priced at $17.99—both reflecting a $3 to $5 increase.

In a statement, ALDI confirmed the change and said the price bump was due to global factors out of their control.

‘The cost of commodities required to produce coffee products has increased due to many factors including global supply issues, climate change and economic pressures,’ ALDI said.

‘As a result, our Lazzio coffee range has experienced adjustments in retail pricing. We are working hand in hand with our Business Partners to deliver the best value and highest quality products to Aussie shoppers.

‘It’s always our ambition to keep prices as low as possible.’

This news comes as coffee prices continue to climb across the board—from supermarkets to your local café.

Even instant coffee hasn't been spared.

A 400g jar of Moccona Classic Freeze Dried Instant Coffee is now $37.50 at Coles and Woolworths, up from $28 in 2023 and just $24 in 2021.

Takeaway coffee has followed the same trend.

What used to be a $4.00 caffeine fix before the pandemic now costs an average of $5.50—a rise of 37.5 per cent, according to a recent report.

Still, ALDI’s Lazzio coffee range continues to draw praise.

The line was recently named Overall Champion in the Large Chain category at the 2025 Golden Bean Australasia Awards.

Two new additions—Luxe Reserve Ethiopia and Luxe Reserve Guatemala—have also launched under the Limited Time Only range, retailing at $15.99 for 500 grams.

The broader range also includes pantry staples from just 95 cents and recognisable brands like Uncle Toby’s, Oreo, and Peters.

If your go-to brew just got more expensive, you're not alone—and this latest hike has many rethinking how much they're willing to pay for a simple cup of coffee.

Price jumps like this aren't isolated, and they're starting to change how people shop, sip, and budget their daily habits.

Here's another story showing just how much a morning caffeine fix can cost these days.

I love my cup of coffee but a what price , it looks like we won’t be able to afford it soon

Same with other coffee brands, Nescafe is the same.

I love my coffee, it's all I drink but I can't drink my preferred brand due to cost. I buy the one I do drink when it's on special in bulk and forgo other items. We have the cost of living as well as all the floods in Brazil etc which predicted the price increase. It's like our farmers in Australia who have to raise prices due to drought and floods, they have to survive as well.
I stress about finances and will have the 'this is ridiculous' outbursts, but it is what it is. Yes supermarkets are greedy but I have too many other things to stress about and it's out of my hands to do anything about it.
We should only worry about things we can control. Which is easy to say and something I'm really trying to live by.

Honestly I have looked at the prices from Aldi and other supermarkets and I have to say where I live there is a cent or maybe up too five cents difference on some items on the groceries that I buy . I just watch the prices across the supermarkets in my town and shop where I am going to save. I am lucky with the coffee as I have just gone back to drinking tea mostly.😊

Yes I remember seeing that massive price rise for the Coffee Beans..

Coffee crops have been destroyed. Coffee is becoming more scarce as a result. So coffee prices are going up. This is a surprise?

Who cares?

It's only coffee and hardly an essential staple!

Who cares? I for one, do care. Coffee isn’t an essential staple, true. But for some of us, it’s a pleasure to start the day with a delicious cup of coffee. ☕

Yep. Coffee prices are all over the place. I know an importer, he told me.
Another trick they use in instant coffee is substituting ground coffee with a percentage of ground peanuts.
He told me that was common practice among suppliers some years ago. Not sure if it's still done tho.

I think the price of most Coffee brands have increased in price over the last few months. My Coffee (Coles) brand went from around the $7.5 for a Jar up to $14. To make it even worse (shrinkflation) the jar sizes are now all small jars. Double whammy.
