Date Bread

My grandparents loved my date bread, and then hubby loved it. I have two recipes I want to share .
This first one is egg free .

Recipe by Australia's Best Recipes

Ingredients​

  • 1 cup dates chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar lightly packed
  • 60g butter
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 3/4 cups self-raising flour sifted
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 2 tsp vanilla essence

Method​

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C or 160 C fan-forced
  2. Put chopped dates and sugar in a bowl and then add sliced butter.
  3. Pour in boiling water, stirring until butter has melted completely.
  4. Add sifted flour and then bicarbonate of soda, mixing well. Add vanilla and mix
  5. Pour into a well greased loaf tin, and bake in oven for 45-50 minutes.

    Cool on wire rack before storing in an airtight container​
