I have received many of these messages also recently, I also have received phone scams, some time ago a young man called from obviously overseas to tell me my services were going to be suspended if I didnt pay my bill... I told him he should be ashamed of himself trying to scam people and how would he feel if someone did this to his mother, he hung up immediatley.

I also have had many scammers call saying my computer has been infected and they want to access My computer and I tell them Hell NO they soon hang up as well I remember My Mother getting same scams and She never owned a computer you just have to stay vigilant and do Not click any links and read the email address it is from you can tell it is FAKE just by the email most times

I seem to have pissed off scam callers - I start quoting the Old Testament at them. I don't know how many get past the "Thou shalt not bear false witness" part when I go on to say the caller is doing just that in to break the "thou shalt not steal"

This morning I had an email that was a scam but it was so realistic I was almost fooled. Supposedly from the Commonwealth bank addressed to 'Dear valued customer' stating that at 12.28 AM today attempts were made to get into my account and I had to click a button to find out more. I called the CBA help line to ask if it was a scam. I was lucky as I got help from a nice lady named Anita who was in Bunbury and she told be that they will always address a customer by their first name. Of course I did not push any buttons but blocked the sender and deleted it. So many scams going around now and I have been getting emails from people I know saying they have some photos I should see but my friends are not sending them, once again I deleted them. Just be very careful what you open.

Good move! If it doesn’t have your name and address and other identifying details, it is a scam. Delete it.

With tax time coming up, the scammers will be out in force trying to panic you into clicking on a link to “update your details,” “check progress of your refund” or some such thing. The ATO will never send out something like that. It is a scammer trying to make you think there is a problem with your tax and you will not get your refund, be forced to pay penalties or be sued for non-payment of tax. It is just an effort to frighten you into giving up your banking details. The ATO does not operate that way. Do not answer, do not click on a link. I get these emails regularly. As a former federal government executive manager, I can assure you these emails or texts are not from the ATO. If there is any problem with your tax return, you will be notified in writing by letter. You can then check with the ATO on their advertised enquiry number to rectify any problem. You will NOT receive an email addressed to “Dear Taxpayer” or “Dear Customer”. Anything signed ATO Team is a scam. There is no such thing. Any correspondence from the ATO will have your Tax File Number, your name and your address. If it doesn’t have that, it is a scam.

Summary: If it doesn’t have your name and address, it is a scam. Delete it.
