Woman's shocking beach encounter leaves her questioning safety

A holiday by the beach should be a carefree escape, but for one woman, her experience took an unsettling turn after an encounter with a man that left her questioning her safety and choices.

What followed was a revealing conversation about harassment, vulnerability, and the pressure women face when simply enjoying a day in the sun.

Here's the full story.

A disturbing encounter during a beach holiday in Mexico left 26-year-old Emily Marzilli feeling shaken and questioning her personal safety.

Emily, a diving instructor, was filming crabs on the beach with her new iPhone when she turned around and found a man allegedly masturbating just metres away.

The incident, which occurred earlier this month, left Emily horrified and quickly changed her perspective on wearing a bikini while travelling.

She recounted the event on social media, where she received overwhelming support from women who had faced similar experiences.

'Does my bikini suddenly make me an object of desire?' Emily asked, expressing her shock and frustration.

Swimwear brand owner Rebecca Pask saw Emily’s story and described the man’s actions as 'disgraceful,' calling for men to 'do better.'

'No one should have to experience that,' Rebecca said, adding: 'Women should be able to wear what they want and not face the backlash of men’s actions.'

The incident unfolded when Emily was enjoying her time on the beach, filming small creatures like crabs with her iPhone.

A man approached her earlier, informing her that he would be 'naked' behind some rocks but assured her he would not 'bother' her.

After the brief exchange, Emily moved further down the beach to avoid him.

About 30 minutes later, while taking videos of crabs, she turned around to find the man just 10 metres away, pleasuring himself.

'I got a new iPhone and was testing out the camera and taking videos of little shells and crabs,' she recalled. 'It wasn’t sexy. I wasn’t on the beach twerking, I’m in like a Gollum from Lord of the Rings position with my phone.'

Panicked, she quickly stopped filming and sought out her friend before leaving the beach as fast as possible.

Back at her hostel, Emily was emotionally overwhelmed, breaking down as she shared the disturbing experience with other guests.

She questioned whether she had done something to make herself vulnerable, asking: 'What did I do to put myself in that situation?'

Her friend responded: 'You were a girl in a bikini on the beach.'

In the aftermath, Emily took to social media, where many women shared similar stories of harassment at beaches.

She was struck by how widespread the issue seemed to be.

'One girl told me she was in Greece, lying on her towel in the sun and felt rain drops from where a man had ejaculated on her,' Emily said.

'Even men' reached out to her about their experiences with flashers.

Emily admitted that it was 'shocking and alarming' just how many people had faced similar situations.

While some followers suggested she should have confronted the man or defended herself physically, Emily explained she was in shock at the time.

'There’s no way in hell I am approaching someone insane enough to do that in public,' she said. 'We were out as fast as we could.'

When discussing whether to report the incident to the police, Emily revealed that other women had been laughed at or even asked to undergo psychological tests after reporting similar experiences.

As she was heading back to Baja California, where she operates a dive school, Emily decided against reporting the matter to authorities.

In the wake of the trauma, Emily said she had felt compelled to dress more modestly while travelling to avoid similar situations.

'I think it’s sad. I love to be expressive, and part of that is the way that I dress. But I value safety and not having another experience like that,' she shared.

Her message to other women was to stay aware and always have a safety backup plan.

'The best way that we can learn how to not be in these situations is to just always be observant and have people to contact in case s*** hits the fan,' she said.

Rebecca Pask also emphasised the need for accountability, stating that 'we cannot stop how others act, we can control how we react and what we do to hold them accountable.'

She stressed that women deserve to feel empowered in whatever makes them feel confident, and in this instance, wearing a bikini was absolutely appropriate.

'The solution is just be aware of where you’re wearing skimpy bikinis and let’s educate our males on what’s acceptable and what’s not,' Rebecca added.

'That is a hard line, it’s harassment and indecent exposure is not okay.'

What the hell is a WOKE except "I woke up in the morning" or the way it was used in Shakespear's day. Want to look at my FEMININE body? Bone cancer at 16, Hysterectomy and Cervical cancer at 32, tiny skin cancer in my 50s and DYING on the table of bowel cancer in 2009. Finally kidney disease since age 8. What the hell does that have to do with anything. To me feminine is how you behave, think, speak, dress and NOT just a body part.
Maybe you should get some appropriate counselling for your loss and illness, a woman`s body is beautiful, she should be able to walk down the street without any clothing and feel safe, but you cannot can you because of the sicko`s around

You can't blame them for that! We wear bras to keep our boobs in place too, Yes, it pulls them up and may make them look bigger, but it doesn't mean we're flaunting it!
My opinion is that young ladies & older women don't walk around in public - with their nipples or down below uncovered. They may do at a nudist beach, but not anywhere else imo. Some women have large breasts & look like a supermodel, but it doesn't mean that men get a green light to abuse them.

For awhile we had a problem with guys flashing at females of all ages on the bikeway/walking paths along a river. They sent undercover Police on bikes along there a few times, some dressed in old scruffy clothes wearing ordinary bike helmets. A group of us from work used to walk along there at lunch time. The Police suggested we stop going for awhile. Another time as we were all going home somebody kept coughing as though vomiting. One of the ladies looked across to where the coughing sound was coming from and he "flashed" her. It was quite obvious he had no clothing at all under his full length coat.

Calm down...it was said in jest!
Firstly, I am not pitying you, because I hate it when others pity me, but wish to show my admiration of how strong you are, considering your circumstances.

As I already explained, this remark was of jest.
The Wokes are a 'cult' of moronic kids today following the fad of transgenders and transexuals and having their genitalia removed!

Never said they do!

I happen to have a wonderful Psychologist and I get plenty of help from her but I have her because of lifelong abuse of all forms from the ones you will be praising next week but I can't see how that fits into male/female dress behaviour. It's getting to a point where women will soon be doing just what you suggest and expect men to kneel down and kiss their feet. Find out about the female sicko's who not only abuse adults but kids as well. As a deaf, disabled 83 year old who lives alone and well respected in the community (I'm still a JP) I see beauty in many things but not all.

thank you. I didn't even think of pity and wouldn't have accepted it anyway. "I CAN'T" has never been in my dictionary. I accept the lemons given and make lemonade. Mum was told I'd never walk and I asked "why did I?" She replied "because you're pig headed and stubborn". I still am. Thank you also for your explanation of "WOKE". Now the only one left to ping me off is "bespoke" also from Shakespear's day. The only ones I understand getting their genitalia removed is the people born HERMAPHRODITES who are born with the sex organs of both male and female or those born in the provable wrong body.

Honestly the only place I see it is on the beach where women wear g-strings and even now women have gone back to wearing normal bikini's.

I go to a lot of weddings and formal events and very rarely see a women flaunting everything.
Out of my 8 daughters none flaunt their boobs. I have one who will wear a short dress to a wedding but then what's the difference to when she wears shorts.

It all comes down to respect, and respecting each other
However there is a fashion for brides to flaunt their boobs. If usually looks cheap and is disrespectful to guests. My sister knows a religious minister who feels uncomfortable when the brides in very low cut dresses stand in front of him. There is a difference between highlighting your figure and letting it all hand out.

With exhibitionists, if it was safe to do so and their were people around, I'd feel inclined to point to the offender, and laugh loudly. I have had a few come to see me as a patient. I asked them to get dressed and leave and if they refused I called the male medical director to deal with them. They are not seeking help but only causing a nuisance.

bullshit. You expect men to be angels while women stick it up their noses. As far as I'm concerned the depraved ones are females who flaunt their bits and pieces and expect respect. As I said, women do what they like, men end up in Court.
was that women FLAUNTING her body - or busy photographing crabs. Were her tits hanging out? No but was his penis hanging out - YES! Was he masturbating it in public at a beach frequented by children - YES! angels have nothing to do with depraved behaviour - maybe that man was you! maybe not, but the next step could be rape! Women stand together & demand better respect - the hell with perverts!

So that's why you are such an angry person although one who has had so much cancer usually shows more compassion

I worked in bridal and found maybe one in every 150 wanted their boobs out. This is the one time I feel they need to be in.

I would ask the brides are they comfortable with guest looking at your breast while congratulating you

I did just that standing on West Footscray Station in Vic over 50 years ago. He got so upset he hid for a couple of minutes behind a fence then ran for his life. All I did was have a good laugh.

Penny I must tell you about a trip to Perth. This occurred a few years ago. My husband & I have a favourite spot by the sea where we liked to go for lunch & wander round the shops, when we decided to have coffee & ice cream. There we were in the outside seating area sitting along a long bench while perched on high stools, when I noticed a couple Of young adult male’s sniggering away, then an older lady behind me changed seats with her daughter. The older lady was looking a bit horrified so I began to wonder what was going on. I followed the young guys line of sight & noticed an older lady sitting on a stool a bit higher than us, with a short dress, legs apart & no knickers! Everything was on display. Being me, I started to laugh & poor Ted wondered what on earth was wrong with me. What disturbed me was that she had her grandsons, who looked about 8 & 10, with her. Maybe the were a family of nudists, or she got dressed in a hurry. My friends still ask if we’re going back there again, we do but haven’t encountered her again.

It doesn’t matter what a woman is wearing- bikini or tracksuit-this kind of sick behaviour results from the thrill the perpetrator gets from exposing himself to young girls or women. It’s the result of a depraved mind - not what the victim is wearing!!!!
At age thirteen I was approached by a man who said he couldn't read and could I find an address for him. I took the paper he was holding and told him he was in the wrong street, and was about to direct him to the address when he moved his coat and exposed himself. I slapped him on the face then ran.
This was my second such experience, I was not wearing anything provocative. The first time was in 1951 and I was wearing a summer dress and at a local park, I ran then too but shouting, 'Dad, a man's showing his willy at me.' My father was not with me, it just felt the best thing to do. It was because several men heard me and asked which way he had gone and went after him. I have no idea if they caught him I just ran straight home. The second time was1953 when I was in school uniform.
Both times I was alone and that seems to be enough for that type of man.
