Elderly woman’s trust shattered in shocking sexual assault by man pretending to be a helper

A recent incident in western Sydney has left authorities and the public shocked.

What started as a simple act of kindness quickly spiraled into a disturbing event, with an elderly woman falling victim to a horrific crime.

The investigation into this troubling case has raised questions about safety and trust in the community.

An investigation was launched by police after an elderly woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man posing as a good Samaritan in western Sydney.

The 83-year-old had just finished her shopping at Charles Mance Reserve in Merrylands on Tuesday around 12:30 pm when an unknown man offered to help her carry her trolley.

By the time they arrived at the woman’s home, police allege the man forced his way inside.

There, it is claimed that he sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing, taking her house keys with him.

The woman was able to contact emergency services later that evening, at about 5:40 pm, to report the incident.

She was transported to hospital for an assessment, and police began setting up a crime scene while commencing their inquiries.

Authorities released images of a man they would like to speak to as part of the investigation.

The man was described as having fair skin, dark hair, and a slight beard.

He was seen wearing a black shirt with white panels, dark blue pants, and white shoes.

A statement from police confirmed that the investigation was taken up by the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

In a previous story, another high-profile case involving serious sexual assault allegations made headlines.

An 83 yr old woman let a perfect stranger, who came with no recommendation or certification, carry her shopping to her home? Seriously?
It's sad that in our society, doing that is very stupid. But it IS very stupid.
It looked, to me, that the trolley had very little in it, which makes me wonder why she wasn't suspicious of his offer to help. Perhaps she has the beginnings of dementia or alzhiemer's, though there's no mention of that. But why did it take her to 5.40pm before she "managed" to contact emergency services?

Don't victim blame, I hope he's found soon and dealt with accordingly. Why would anyone attack the elderly, there is absolutely no excuse, give me 5 minutes with him and he'll regret the day he was born. No mental health excuses, no hard luck stories, his family should be ashamed. Just makes me so mad 🤬

If help is offered be very careful to check the person offering to help. If you know them then let them help, if you don't know them say a very polite "No Thank you" and walk away and find someone you do know . This, of course, would depend on the type of help they are offering. You can usually tell if an offer is genuine by the attitude of the person, or at least I can.

People attack the elderly because they think they are vulnerable which in some cases they are. I have been continually attacked in my own home by neighbourhood kids because I am the only older person living alone in the street. It has cost me a lot of sleepless nights and money to replace broken windows and the thefts they have carried out.

In Victoria sexual assault does not mean rape, rape means rape. I was not aware of this until someone else pointed out it was rape. Here sexual assault means touching inappropriately.
Now that I have researched that I know it means different things in each state.

Having had been sexually assaulted years ago by someone who thought it was okay to touch women that way, and started to laugh at my reaction, he did not laugh for much longer.

I genuinely thought it was touching inappropriately, so wondered why it took so long to manage reporting it - I did wonder if she had a condition that made her take so long, as I stated in my post.

Perhaps read the full post before jumping to the conclusion that I was uncaring of what happened to the woman.
