Global restaurant chain faces uncertainty in Australia: 'The customer remains at the heart of our business'

Australia has seen several global restaurant chains enter the local market.

While some of these brands thrive and boast a sizable market, others also crumble due to shake-ups within the industry.

Fast food fans should brace themselves for a potential shake-up in the Australian food landscape.

Popular Mexican-themed restaurant chain Taco Bell is on the verge of a significant transition.

The chain's Australian operator, Collins Foods, recently announced its plans to sell the franchise.

Collins Foods, the same parent company behind KFC outlets in Australia and Europe, decided to part ways with the brand.

The company cited a challenging competitive environment, as it found its match in rival brand Guzman y Gomez.

This competition became a key factor in Collins Foods' strategic reassessment of its portfolio.

Collins Foods' Chief Executive and Managing Director Xavier Simonet emphasised the importance of focusing on customer satisfaction.

'In a challenging economic environment, the customer remains at the heart of our business,' Mr Simonet stated.

'We will continue to deliver high-quality food at accessible prices, leveraging the heritage of the KFC brand at a time when consumer trust has never been more important.'

With 27 Taco Bell outlets under its wing, Collins Foods has been discussing the brand's exit strategy with its American parent company.

This move came after an ASX report last December, which showed a two per cent dip in Taco Bell's revenue.

However, it's not all doom and gloom for Collins Foods.

The company has been eyeing aggressive growth in Germany and shared its plans to open 40 to 70 new KFC restaurants over the next five years.

However, this expansion came with challenges, such as outlet closures in the Netherlands.

Mr Simonet believed that selling Taco Bell, among other initiatives, could give the company strategic clarity and a renewed sense of purpose.

'We remain laser-focused on delivering operational excellence in our core market, Australia, where we continue to adapt to a dynamic consumer landscape successfully,' Simonet explained.

For Aussie Taco Bell fans, this news might come as a surprise.

The restaurant chain has been famous for its Mexican-inspired fare.

It has garnered a dedicated following since it opened its first store in The Land Down Under.

Brands, even global ones, may come and go and could change as quickly as our cravings.

For now, Taco Bell lovers might want to savour their Crunchwrap Supremes while they still can.

Normally, with most companies, I feel sad for them if they fold. But honestly, we don’t need to promote more fast food outlets.

There are enough Americans keeping Taco Bell alive since it opened there in 1962. We don’t need it here. There are other alternatives for Australians.
