'What's his point?': Man heckles comedian over her story on-stage

In the world of stand-up comedy, a quick wit and a sharp tongue are essential tools of the trade.

Comedians often face hecklers, but it's not every day that you hear a well-crafted comeback that leaves the audience roaring with approval.

Such was the case with Julie Kim, a comedian who turned a gross heckle into a moment of triumph.

In doing so, Kim sparked a conversation about the choices women make regarding childbirth.

During a recent performance, Julie Kim shared her personal experience with an elective caesarean birth.

It's a topic that's both intimate and controversial for women.

As she delved into her story, a man in the audience felt the need to interrupt.

He raised his hand to catch Ms Kim's attention and proceeded to share his unsolicited opinion.

Claiming to read scientific studies' for fun', the man turned to the audience and declared the importance of natural birth for providing immunity to children.

The man's interjection was deemed unwelcome and reeked of 'mansplaining'—a term used to describe a man explaining something to a woman in a condescending manner.

Mansplaining involves men talking about topics women are already knowledgeable and experienced in.

Ms Kim, who had already tried to dismiss the man once, decided to put an end to the unsolicited advice.

'Yes, but you don't know that after I had my C-section, they were like, "Do you want to hold her" and I said "No",' Ms Kim retorted.

'I actually dipped her back in a few times. Thank you so much for your medical advice, sir.'

Her response was met with laughter and applause, not just from those in the room.

People all over the internet commended her on how she dealt with the exchange.

Ms Kim's encounter was a reminder that humour could be a powerful tool in addressing ignorance and overstepping boundaries.

In Australia, caesarean deliveries are a common option.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, one in three women opted for caesareans in 2022.

While some studies suggested that babies born via caesarean may have different health outcomes, the reasons for choosing this method of delivery vary.

Women may opt for a caesarean due to medical necessity, such as a previous emergency C-section or complications during labour.

Despite this, there has been a stigma and lack of understanding about caesarean births.

The online community rallied behind Julie Kim and called out the heckler for his inappropriate remarks.

'Did he think you had a C-section for fun,' a commenter sarcastically asked Ms Kim.

'And what's his point? There are many reasons to have a C-section birth, many include saving the life of mother and baby,' another defended.

'The way he starts shaking his head and motioning that he's had enough once you clap back as if he didn't start it,' a third pointed out.

The way Julie Kim handled the situation was a win for her as a comedian, but also a moment of solidarity for women.

So, let's take a moment to appreciate the strength and resilience of women who make tough decisions every day, including childbirth.

He would know all about childbirth. I am sure he has gone through it a few times to be so informative and up to date :ROFLMAO: As far as seeing someone shot down in flames from a comedian we went and saw Stephen K Amos and this girl stated correcting him on different things he was saying. He went for the jugular as she said she was studying law and he was incorrect on what he was talking about. Well all her friends moved away as she was digging a hole for herself. She realised she was losing the battle and shut up after about 5 minutes.

This is a bit rude, but apparently it served its purpose. My son went to a comedy festival in Newcastle some years ago. For the purposes of this story, it's important to remember that Newcastle is the world's largest coal exporting port, and consequently, there are always plenty of sailors out and about in the city and docks area.

There was a smart alec in the audience making life difficult for each comedian trying to perform their act.

Finally, a comedian came on and ignored the heckler for a while, but finally he'd had enough and asked him to stop. Heckler kept right on. After several more attempts to shut him up, the comedian said, 'Mate, I'm trying to work here, and you're trying to stop me. That's not fair. After all, I don't go down to the docks every night and knock the sailors' dicks out of your mother's mouth!' The heckler apparently left at this point, followed by screams of laughter and cheers from the rest of the audience.
