Aussie TV icon faces criticism over controversial Facebook post! What did he say?

In the digital age, every post can be scrutinised by the public eye.

Even the most seasoned media veterans can find themselves in hot water after a seemingly harmless post.

This was the case for an Australian TV host who recently faced a barrage of criticism over a post that left a poor taste in people's mouths.

Derryn Hinch, a name synonymous with Australian media, is no stranger to controversy.

However, his latest foray into social media left many of his followers questioning the appropriateness of sharing specific memories from the past.

The 80-year-old media personality shared a snippet of a song from his youth.

The ditty was something he likely remembered with a sense of nostalgia.

The post read: 'I like the girls who do. I like the girls who don't. I hate the girls who say they will, and then they say they won't.'

'But the girl I love the most of all, and I think you'll say I'm right, is the girl who says she never does—but she looks as though she might,' the post concluded.

Along with the post was a drawing of four girls.

While Hinch intended for the post to be a trip down memory lane, his audience's reaction was anything but light-hearted.

Some fans quickly labelled the lyrics as 'inappropriate' and 'terrible.'

'I'm shocked by the amount of people thinking this ditty is cute and funny... especially the fact it refers to girls,' a comment read.

'I'd be glad to never hear it again,' another commented.

Meanwhile, some defended Hinch's post as it was of a bygone era.

'It was of its time, stop being such a snowflake!' a commenter exclaimed.

In response to the backlash, Hinch expressed his surprise at the strong reaction to a 'light-hearted, whimsical memory from as a kid'.

'This was about teenage boys kissing teenage girls, nothing more sinister in it. It wasn't at all; it was an innocent childhood thing,' Hinch stated.

Hinch also reminisced about the lyrics originating from a Max Miller record, a comedian known for his risqué humour during The Depression era.

Despite the controversy, Hinch acknowledged the commotion in his post.

'I look at a movie from 30 years ago and think they wouldn't make it now,' Hinch said as he compared his current predicament to older media.

'Times have changed, and for the better. I'm the last one to try and talk about disrespect for women.'

Amidst the criticism, Hinch found support from some Australians who shared his sense of nostalgia.

One supporter commented on the humour of the lyrics, while another recognised Max Miller as the original author.

A particular commenter criticised the 'sensitivity' of modern society, as he lamented the loss of common sense and humour.

Derryn Hinch's situation should be a reminder that the past can be a minefield in the present, especially when shared on a public platform.

It also raised questions about the balance between nostalgia and sensitivity in modern society.

All the woke wa***rs should listen to Pommy comedian Jimmy Carr. Then you could be really offended. Just take a few Valium first.

To those who choose to be offended by this.....SO WHAT.......Being offended has no harm involved. Where are the bruises? Where are the broken bones? There is no substance to being offended. It really is a transient action, here one moment, gone the next, leaving no physical harm behind. There are probably idiots around who will offer a lousy argument that their Psyche was harmed. Well, if that is the way they think, that is what they deserve. How about "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". Just go listen to parliament on the TV on any given day. You will hear individuals insult each other 100 times per hour. This MUST offend the recipients, but it is permitted AND accepted. Good enough for them, but not good enough for everyone else?

After reading all these comments on here by us the older generation, who see nothing wrong in the rhyme from the old days, it must be the younger woke generation that are complaining.

The song was "Some Girls". Here are the lyrics.

"Some girls will
Some girls won't
Some girls need a lot of loving
And, uh, some girls don't"

What a bunch of "politically correct wowsers! Next thing they will want this song banned!

Which wouldn't be so bad. Crappy song anyway!
bless you my friend. I'm with you all the way.

Wrong!!!

It is a ditty by MAX MILLER called I LIKE THE GIRL and that's all the words in it, the ones that Derryn quoted. He also sang My Boomerang Won't Come Back, Any Old Iron, When I'm Cleaning Windows, Donald where's your Troosers, Hand Up Your Sticks, Mad Dogs and Englishmen and many many more!!!!!
a lot of these were on my record by George Formby

They need to leave things alone. By not letting someone reminisce isn't that taking away memories.

People of today have to find bad in nearly everything from the past.

Just look at nursery rhymes , how many of those are now taught to kids. They found bad in every single one.
Its like the story about the foreman going through hard times who says, I've got to lay you or Jack off? she replied well you better jackoff I've got a splitting headache???

WHAT! So many prudes. It is a ditty, and reading it after all these years took my memory back years. If you are so dirty-minded to even think bad, THEN you do have a dirty mind.
It will be one Derryn sang in his young and tender years in NZ.
BLOODY, UNBELIEVABLE PRUDES.

I was taught by my grandmother to see the funny side in everything, as that way I would cope better with difficult situations in my life. And she was right, live a little, laugh a little!! Nowadays people are so fullof themselves, there is no humour, no fun, they are offended by everything, even if they have to look long and hard to find a reason to be offended! We used to "laugh it off", they spend more time taking things apart so that they can be offended! It s a sad world we live in... especially as we are getting suppressed and stop, talking freely for fear of saying the wrong thing... No wonder more and more people suffer from depression...
IT IS THE PEOPLE OFFENDED WHO HAVE THE PROBLEM, NOT US.

For goodness sake. The world has gone mad. What’s wrong with a girl agreeing and disagreeing. Why think the worst Talk about making too much out of nothing and ignoring important things. Get a life

Beware folks.. Next thing will be AI thought police driving down your street with a huge thought antennae zoning into every household or person navigating the street... .. We are becoming so controlled and manipulated it's becoming dangerous even to think outside the official narrative of actual government and strata of brain washed society... Time to go bush before we go troppo
Don't worry their out here in the bush to!

All I can say is I'm glad I grew up when everyone enjoyed a bit of good old fashioned humour. Everything was taken as a joke in good humour and didn't get offended over something that was not personal and said in humour. These days people take everything out of context and think its all about themselves. The ones that complain obviously have personal issues and should seek help. Get over it and enjoy life.

This is what is happening with 'Aussie humour', it is disappearing. We could laugh at ourselves, at anything and it was all done together. Now, we have become a 'splintered society', looking for some smutty, hidden meaning or agenda in everything. Bring back the 'Benny Hill humour, Kingswood Country, Mavis Bramson show, My names McGooly, what's yours (Gordon Chater), Acropolous now, and many more. This was comedy, you have 'comediens' now that put 3 swear-words in every 4, not funny. Dave Allen, The Two Ronnies, they could tell jokes and not put in one 'blue word' and we would be laughing all week. I have been watching some of the Parkinson shows with the great Dame Edna, Les Patterson guests and the entire audience, band, and others all laughing their heads off, me included. IT WAS FUNNY PEOPLE... Humour in Aust. is almost 'dead'..because of a few 'bloody narrow minded wousers', who don't have a life and don't want anyone else to have one as well. I couldn't believe when they removed the 'Here comes Noddy and Bigears' childrens' books from the shelves BECAUSE someone suggested that it had the VIEW THAT THERE WAS AN INAPPROPRIATE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AN ELDERLY MAN AND A CHILD LIVING TOGETHER. Well I still kept many of my Noddy books and read them to my kids when they were little and they enjoyed them and laughed. So to all those 'prim and propper wousers, do-gooders, smut brigade loon-a-ticks, those who seek out and destroy for the sake of it, block your ears and close your eyes because I have something that will terrify the pants off you.....bum, poo, shit, bra, boobs.... that should make you all sit up all night writing complaints....to everyone else, have a laugh, it is one of the great medicines in life. As Confusious said, Girl who walks beside cliff is bound to get knocked off....lol

I fondly remember a group of us young blokes gathering at my cousins house and listening to “Max at the Met” record and laughing ourselves silly. I think we wore the record out.
I suppose those thin skinned people who ousted Derryn Hinch would think nothing of watching a movie with bare breasted women acting out a sex scene with most of the dialogue crude and indecent language.

what wonderful shows you mention. I wish they'd bring them back instead of the rubbish on tv that's gone on for over 30 years. Things like Hone and Gone Astray, The Mob Next Door and overseas rubbish. How many ways can you write "who's up who and who's paid the rent"? I couldn't stand Dame Edna, etc but I loved the English comedy, especially Benny Hill, the many Sid James movies and the two Ronnies. As for Noddy, that was my eldest son's nickname when his baby sister couldn't say Rodney and he got stuck with it.
I wouldn't mind if they brought back our own old cop shows either.
