'He was my favourite': Heartbroken fans mourn for Kommotion star's passing

The Australian entertainment industry lost one of its brightest stars in the sixties.

Veteran TV personality and singer Tony Healey has passed away following a long illness.

Tony Healey's passing was confirmed by a family friend on social media, who paid tribute to the joy and laughter he brought to so many over the years.

The Melbourne-born performer, who was in his seventies, spent his final days in a Gold Coast hospital, surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends.

Tony Healey's journey to stardom began in the sixties.

Healey joined as a vibrant singer and dancer on the iconic Melbourne variety show Kommotion.

His big break in 1965 catapulted him into the hearts of teenagers across the nation, who tuned in weekly to watch him perform alongside industry legends like Molly Meldrum.

The show, which had its cast mime along with pop hits of the said era, became a cultural phenomenon.

Healey's magnetic presence on Kommotion earned him a dedicated fan club composed of adoring fans.

However, Kommotion was short-lived and left a void in the Australian music scene.

The show was axed in 1967 due to an Actors Equity ban on miming recorded music on TV.

Despite this setback, the show's impact was so significant that the Herald Sun named it one of Australia's greatest music programs ever in 2020.

After his stint on Kommotion, Tony Healey did not fade from the public eye.

Instead, Healey pivoted to journalism and became a long-time writer for Go-Set, one of Australia's first music magazines.

His passion for storytelling and exploration led him to a successful career as a travel journalist.

Healey shared his global adventures with readers across Australia.

Tony Healey's colleagues and fans took to social media to express their sorrow about his passing.

'Still in shock that he passed on. My Condolences to his family and close friends on the Gold Coast on their loss,' one fan wrote.

'I loved him on Kommotion. He was my favourite,' another fan shared.

'I loved watching Kommotion! Remember him well,' a third recounted.

In 2023, staff writers and artists featured in Go-Set got together, including Healey.
