'Is anyone else seeing this?': Bunnings item sparks speculation from customers

When you think of Bunnings Warehouse, you envision aisles filled with power tools, garden supplies, and the scent of a sausage sizzle during weekends.

It's a place where DIY dreams come true and where every Aussie can find something they need for their home.

Recently, some shoppers have stumbled upon an item that sparked a surprising amount of debate and controversy.

A Melbourne local shared her astonishment about a specific item she found at the hardware giant.

'Is anyone else seeing this?' she asked as she showed gun safes prominently displayed at a Bunnings warehouse in Hawthorn.

She could not help but question the demand for such an item in the heart of Melbourne, a bustling metropolitan typically disassociated with firearm ownership.

'I was at an inner-city Bunnings today, and all of a sudden, they have gun safes. What is going on?' she added.

The video quickly captured the attention of the online community, with many echoing her disbelief.

Social media users were also taken by surprise and shared their thoughts about the item.

'The location does make it strange!' one commenter agreed. 'I only really know of rural farmers who own guns.'

'I get what you're saying; fair enough suburban or regional Bunnings, but a smaller inner-city one? I would not expect them to stock them!' another commented.

However, not everyone was taken aback by the discovery.

Several long-time customers and former employees chimed in to say that Bunnings has always carried gun safes in their stores.

'They have been selling them since at least 2017 when I worked there,' one commenter revealed.

'They reckon they have been selling these types of safes for 15 years!' another exclaimed.

Some commenters also praised Bunnings for making gun safes accessible.

'This is a good thing,' a third remarked.

'There are super strict regulations as to how guns have to be stored. The availability in a convenient shop means that they're more likely to be stored safely,' they pointed out further.

In response to the growing conversation, Bunnings provided a separate statement about this find.

'Providing a range of products to meet the needs of our customer base is important to us,' a Bunnings spokesperson stated in an interview.

'We have stocked a range of gun safes across our stores for a while now, and the availability depends on a variety of factors.'

Whoever posted that video clip is showing her ignorance. Australia has dozens of gun clubs with hundreds of registered, gun-owning shooters. Acquiring a permt/ licence to own a firearm in Australia requires a strict and onerous application process involving in-depth police checks. One of the requirements is that the applicant must be able to prove they have suitable safe storage of any guns they purchase.

Would she rather those people engaging in a legitimate activity keep their legally registered guns in the wardrobe?

She is deliberately trying to provoke a negative 'I'm outraged' reaction from probably equally ignorant viewers.

Certainly better that all firearms are locked away safely though I am not so sure that those people who have guns and shouldn't would be bothered about the safety of the guns in their homes ir wherever they stash them.

What's the problem !! Both my sons have their gun license purpose was to go hunting and if they purchased a gun it needed to be kept in a gun safe which was bolted to the floor.
You could also expect random police visits to check that the guns are stored properly.

Thank Goodness they only got their licence and no guns

Aye I know someone that nearly lost his pistol licence because his wife knew where it was?

Gun safes can be for all manner of uses, however most of those sold I personally would have no use as they seem a bit to flimsily made?
I was just telling my husband about this poor outraged woman & he totally agrees with you that Bunnings gun safes are rather flimsy, as well as a lot of others. He relinquished his guns when we moved to the city & my dad was no longer on the farm, so hunting options were harder. This was before gun control laws were introduced.

Just think back to the 1970s when Kmart and local sports stores used to sell rifles, shotguns and ammunition over the counter.

As a 12 year old, I purchased a box of .22 calibre ammunition from the only sports store in Riverwood, Sydney. No questions asked.

whoever posted complaining about gun safes in Bunnings stores must have been walking around with their eyes closed as the product has been on sale for many years. In any event what are they complaining about, they are selling gun safes not GUNS !

I am of the belief that Gun Safes are Manufactured to strict conditions to comply with State Govt and Police Laws.

And it was called Trevor's.
I also remember so many boys shooting bb guns.
He also sold firecrackers as did the milkbars.
