I am a retired member of The RAAF in which I accrued over 20 years of military life and most things that go with it.
Born and raised in Tasmania, I joined the RAAF when 25y/o. I had Postings to Victoria, South Australia, NSW, QLD, W.A. Overseas (South East Asian countries) and final 4 postings were to Canberra and within where I have remained since. I purchased a house and my wife, daughter and myself remain in the same one now 30 years later.
During my life from 13y/o to 50y/o I was a keen golfer, left hander) and eventually played off a handicap of 7 when playing at my best, but I had to cease when my back gave me too many problems. I played Aussie Rules from age 5 to around 15y/o and gave up football to devote more time to golf. I had the chance to become a Pro Apprentice when 16, but decided to do another couple of years of school and bide my time until my opportunity arose to join the Air Force. My footballing, I suspect, contributed towards the arthritis and other physical injuries I have in older age. I trained and played hard.
After retiring from the RAAF I pursued a hobby and fond interest of Woodcraft and eventually created a small business, manufacturing, importing and selling woodcraft items. Initially planned as a 4 year venture, I retired from the business after 10 years. Still not able to remain idle at home and doing domestic duties for my lovely wife, I obtained employment with the Embassy of the USA and remained in that for around 4 years then retired definitely and permanently due to failing health.
That leaves me at home now, back to my (wife’s) domestic duties along with some gardening and Home Maintenance, which I enjoy. I like to venture out on my Mobility Scooter for local drives and to my favourite Coffee Shop each morning, to drink and socialise and keep up with news etc.
Probably not the exciting life as it once was, but it is what it is and I try to make the most of it and enjoy having my family near. If anything further happens, like winning Lotto, I will update this description accordingly. Thanks for taking the time to read.
