Can your payments disappear when you need them the most? One woman's experience may have the answer

Situations like these are continuing to increase simply because the routine operations management of Centrelink and other government departments are now being handled by automated AI programs. AI is very efficient at sticking strictly to the rules with no room for flexibility and individual...

New tax laws prompt changes in retirement plans nationwide. Here's what we know

"Ray White's Vanessa Rader warned that these changes could make residential property a much less attractive option for investors. If people decide to sell up before the new tax kicks in, Australians could see a surge in property listings. This change could push property prices down for a short...

What’s one little thing that made you smile this week?

What really made me smile this week was when I woke up to discover one of my songs has over 400 views in only 5 days on YouTube. I think for somebody about to hit 70, that's a pretty cool thing... isn't it? Well, it feels good to me anyway, lol. Septuagenarians don't usually write popular...

Pensioners face $3,300 Centrelink shock amid cost-of-living squeeze

Sadly, no definitive calculation of possible deeming rates if this temporary pause is lifted in June-July was included in the article. But reading between the lines, it is approx 4% (4c in the dollar) on the interest earned from bank savings over $62,500. So, somebody with quite meagre savings...

Council members argue over 'cheeky' campaign advert on public spaces

My point exactly. When one person takes the initiative to do it, it's clever and harmless enough, but then when EVERYBODY with something to say or sell does it, it becomes just another form of ugly graffiti spoiling the streetscape.

Council members argue over 'cheeky' campaign advert on public spaces

I think the idea is very clever ... but still fundamentally wrong without a Council permit required for ALL election signage. The biggest concern of all is that if it was allowed, the idea will quickly be adopted by businesses for advertising products and sales/events in busy public areas...

Spotted! Mysterious number plate sparking online debate–is it even legal?

Soooo, what will the replacement be after we (eventually) become a Republic? Suggestions welcome ;) Maybe a golden shovel representing both mining and gold diggers in the one symbol. The Commonwealth Star, perhaps... a silver horse (i.e. a 'GG' for Governor General ... HIYO SILVERRRRR...

'Beyond disgraceful': Controversial shop display sparks fierce debates about symbolism

I have no problem with the statement myself. If you act like it, there should be no surprise when artists depict you as it. I think the next one should be the same photos dressed in their original clothing but wearing MAGA hats (both standard red and Musk's black gothic versions) as a more...

‘This isn’t right’: Debate erupts after shopper shares frustrating Woolies encounter

As a general rule of thumb, if you are using bags provided or bought from the supermarket in question, the checkout operator should pack them as the bags are designed to fit on the holders at the checkout. But if the shopper is using non-standard shopping bags that could be any size, shape, or...

Bunnings customer suffers from injury after a sudden, 'excessive' attack

In my opinion, if somebody grabs a hand axe and hits somebody else on the head with it from behind, the intent is to kill, nothing less. So, the charge is attempted murder. The whole idea that the person was under the influence of drugs at the time should be no excuse because they willingly...

Is this continent preparing for a massive conflict? Countries reveal contingency plans for looming threat

I have to say that I'm finding this excessive fearmongering over Russia very bizarre. Putin has not threatened to invade or attack Europe at all. He has only stated that if European nations attack Russia, they will respond accordingly (which is as you would expect). 🤷‍♂️

Would you call your mum an ‘inseminated person’? New proposal sparks debate

This story is a bit of a media beat-up really. It is only intended in relation to IVF recipients, not ALL mums and dads. In IVF terms, it makes sense because in, say, a lesbian marriage, either parent could potentially be the 'mother' in the literal sense, including the parent that most...

Trumpet of the Patriots: Clive Palmer’s bold new move before the election

Screams of "pick me, pick me" desperation from a multilevel loser trying to ride on the back of somebody else's coat tails ... again! It would be laughable if it wasn't so sad... um... nah! It IS laughable!

Millions of Australians to see a boost in Centrelink payments—are you getting yours?

I think it's important to point out that this article ISN'T about increases due to come in. It is mostly a recap of the increases we received in March 2024 LAST YEAR. The reason for that is that it implies that we MIGHT get another increase in the budget THIS year as well, but that is yet to be...

‘It shouldn’t be confidential’: Why locals are demanding answers over council move

I just need to point out that my post was 100% tongue-in-cheek and NOT representative of my personal thoughts on the matter at all. Cheers! 😁
