Vacuum sealing food in plastic bags

Place the food in a plastic bag, place a straw in the bag leaving one end exposed. Close the bag up around the straw, holding it tightly, then suck on the straw to remove as much air as possible, whip the straw out and quickly seal off the bag. Excellent when freezing food... stops ice forming and spoiling the food!

This is a great tip, Julieanne. You can do something similar with bigger bags if you're trying to vacuum seal clothing. Just use a vacuum cleaner instead of a straw
