This creative DIY project is perfect for summer nights!

Summer is just around the corner, and we're already thinking of ways to make our outdoor areas more inviting. After all, who doesn't like a cosy place where they can unwind and entertain guests, right?

But, unfortunately, these sorts of improvements to one's home typically don't come cheap. Luckily for us DIYers, there are plenty of ways to do this without breaking the bank – you just need a bit of creativity (and some help from your local hardware store)!

Just take Kellie, an empty nester from the Gold Coast, for example.

Kellie found an ordinary bamboo basket at Target and immediately saw its potential. With just a few additional supplies that she picked up from Bunnings, she was able to turn it into something stunning and unique in no time at all!

'A little DIY project over the weekend,' Kellie wrote in a post on the Bunnings Mums Australia Facebook group, along with some photos of her finished product.

'I used two 60cm teak round tabletops, remote-controlled puck lights from Bunnings, as well as two baskets from Target. Pretty happy with the results for my outdoor area!'

Here's how she did it:

She started by covering the baskets with a thin coat of white spray paint, eventually building up three or so layers to 'mute' the colour of the baskets.

Next, she used a hot glue gun to attach the basket's base to the wood and then fastened it in place with tiny screws to make sure it wouldn't fall over.

Putting the puck lights in the basket was the last step. She used the hot glue gun once more to stick the puck light's base within, and once that had cooled, she attached the rest of the light.

This way, it could still be taken off in case the batteries need to be changed. 'Both puck lights run from the same remote. That's it, easy peasy!' Kellie explained.

Her DIY project turned out so well that it wasn't surprising that other people in the Facebook group loved it. The post quickly received over 400 likes and 60 comments!

Tip
Target's woven baskets are made from natural bamboo fibres, which may catch fire. Do not place these makeshift tables near any open flames, such as a bonfire or a barbeque grill.

In the comments section, a wave of users went to praise and commended her for the amazing DIY project suggestion.

'Wow, how beautiful is this,' one user wrote, with another adding: 'Absolutely gorgeous, well done!' A third user even said that the finished tables already look wonderful during the day but that they are especially eye-catching when it becomes dark outside.

Many others in the group were eager to give the project a try, too, and some even encouraged their friends and relatives to do the same.

Extremely clever of her. Have to admit the ladies have it over us men when it comes to these type of projects on here. Congratulations.
