childhood mischievousness' a humorous walk down memory lane
I am highly science minded, and I remember as a child of maybe 10 years old, that I captured a fart of mine underwater in a screw top glass jar, while in the bath one day.
I closed it tight and then later, I put it right in the back of the bathroom medicine cupboard, with the intention of leaving it in my sister's room, at a later stage.
However, I forgot about it, and as the years moved on, it remained fermenting and forgotten behind the sink pipes at the very back of the cupboard.
I was about 15 years old as I recall. It was on a weekend. Mum was busily doing spring cleaning in the bathroom, and I was in the kitchen doing the washing up. I heard an OOOOOOGH GAWWWWD sound come from my mother and then a loud thump.
I ran immediately to the bathroom door, to see my mother laying on the floor, towel over her face and her arm outstretched towards me, with my long forgotten, but now newly opened fart in a jar experiment. I said oh great Mum, you found it! and grabbed it from her hand excitedly!
It smelled terrible all right.
Science is all about checking the facts, using a controlled experiment over time.
I explained this quite clearly. But my mother was not at all on the side of science.
Know, I actually got scolded and though of course I felt very sorry for my mum,
I really wished one of my sisters would have found it…
It’s the little things in life,
That makes it all worthwhile.
