Caddyshack star Cindy Morgan (69) and Starsky and Hutch icon David Soul (80) pass away

The entertainment industry is in mourning following the announcement of the passing of two well-loved actors: Cindy Morgan, renowned for her memorable performances in the classic films Caddyshack and Tron, and David Soul, best known for his pivotal role in the iconic television series Starsky and Hutch.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office confirmed Cindy Morgan's passing to the media last January 6. The cause of death was later confirmed as natural causes by a representative for the county.

The exact date of her passing is unclear, but her body was discovered on December 30, indicating that she may have passed away several days earlier.

That day, Morgan's roommate noticed that the actress was not responding to her knocks on the door, according to the sheriff's office. Upon noticing a strong odour, she called the police for help. They discovered the body in the bedroom.

Currently, there is no suspicion of foul play, but an investigation is reportedly underway.

Morgan, known for her captivating performances and radiant on-screen presence, passed away at 69. Her death has left a void in the entertainment industry that will be hard to fill.

Her breakout role came in the 1980 comedy Caddyshack, where she starred alongside comedy legends Chevy Chase and Bill Murray. Her portrayal of the seductive Lacey Underall was a standout performance, quickly catapulting her to stardom.

However, her acting journey began even before this, with a small part in the 1980 film American Gigolo, starring Richard Gere and Lauren Hutton.

Morgan was born in Chicago, Illinois in the US and attended Northern Illinois University, where she worked as a DJ for the campus radio station. Post-college, she worked as a weather girl for a local television station and as a DJ on the state radio station.

In 1978, Morgan boldly moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting dreams. She initially found work as the 'Irish Spring Girl' in advertisements while she honed her acting skills in classes.

Just two years later, she landed her breakout role in Caddyshack, marking the beginning of a successful acting career.

Morgan's acting prowess wasn't limited to comedy. In 1982, she took on a major role in the sci-fi classic Tron, playing dual roles as Lora, a computer programmer in the 'real' world, and Yori, her alter-ego in the film's computer-generated world. This role showcased her versatility as an actress and further cemented her place in Hollywood.

Throughout her career, Morgan appeared in a variety of television shows, including CHiPs, The Larry Sanders Show, Amazing Stories, The Love Boat, The Fall Guy, Vegas, and Matlock.

She also had a recurring role in the nighttime soap Falcon Crest for three seasons.

In her later years, Morgan contributed more to the entertainment industry, appearing in several short films and lending her voice to video games.

Her last film role was in 2011 Empty Sky, and her final television appearance was in a 1994 episode of Under Suspicion.

Beyond her acting career, Morgan was deeply committed to philanthropy. She was particularly passionate about supporting veterans of the U.S. Military from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, working tirelessly to alleviate their financial hardships.

She also raised funds for the Illinois Family Relief Fund, which supports the families of National Guard members, reservists, and those on active duty.

Cindy Morgan's passing is a significant loss to the entertainment industry. Fans and colleagues will remember her talent, charisma, and dedication to her craft.

In other news, the beloved actor and singer David Soul passed away at 80. His wife, Helen Snell, confirmed the news, stating: ‘David Soul—beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother—died yesterday after a valiant battle for life in the loving company of family.’

‘He shared many extraordinary gifts in the world as actor, singer, storyteller, creative artist and dear friend,’ Snell added. ‘His smile, laughter and passion for life will be remembered by the many whose lives he has touched.’

His legacy, however, lives on through his memorable roles, music, and the countless lives he touched.

Born David Solberg in the US, Soul's journey to stardom began in the 1960s when he joined the avant-garde Firehouse Theater.

His acting career spanned several decades, with his most iconic role being that of detective Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson in the hit TV series Starsky & Hutch.

The show aired on ABC from 1975 to 1979 and became a cultural phenomenon, inspiring a line of children's toys and even a 2004 big-screen remake.

Soul's portrayal of Hutch, alongside Paul Michael Glaser's Starsky, was a defining moment in television history.

The duo's on-screen chemistry and the show's blend of action, drama, and humour set a new standard for buddy cop shows, influencing countless series that followed.

But Soul's talents weren't limited to acting. He also had a successful singing career, with hits like 'Don’t Give Up on Us,' 'Going in With My Eyes Open,' and 'Silver Lady.'

His musical journey began in the 1960s when he appeared on The Merv Griffin Show as 'The Covered Man,' a singer who performed with his face hidden, symbolising the need for freedom.

Soul's diverse career also saw him appear in popular shows like Star Trek, All in the Family, and I Dream of Jeannie, as well as the miniseries Salem's Lot.

He even stepped into Humphrey Bogart's shoes in a short-lived version of the film classic Casablanca, playing the role of nightclub owner Rick Blaine.

His filmography included movies like Magnum Force and The Hanoi Hilton, and he made a cameo alongside Glaser in the 2004 remake of Starsky & Hutch, starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson.

In the 1990s, Soul moved to Britain, where he continued to perform on stage.

He won a libel case in 2001 against a journalist who criticised a play he was in, The Dead Monkey, without having seen it. He also played the titular talk show host in Jerry Springer—The Opera in London's West End.

Although I very seldom watched Starsky & Hutch I did enjoy David Soul's music and it was only a couple of weeks ago I listened to a cassette he recorded many years ago {yes, I still have cassettes}. The scary thing was I remembered the words of all the songs and sung my little heart out. RIP David Soul

Good ol' Starkers and Crutch! My family , most of my friends and I loved that show and the the two main characters/actors. Don't know if it was classed as a "ground-breaker" of a show but we certainly watched it religiously, almost. I, too, liked some of David's music. There were even a couple of young blokes (my age actually) who had their cars painted similar to the Starsky & Hutch car. They'll be missed.
