You won't believe what Sunrise's Sam Mac found at Kmart for just $1: "I learned the painful truth"

When Sam "Sam Mac" McMillan, the weatherman from Sunrise, learned that Kmart had marked down the price of his memoir, he responded in a rather hilarious way.

Sam uploaded a TikTok video of himself in a park as soon as he got a text from a friend letting him know that his book, Accidental Weatherman, was only $1 at Kmart.

The autobiographical book was published by Mac last year and was initially available for $32.99 on the shelves. It tells the story of how a boy with no prior experience in meteorology manages to land the most-coveted weather job at Australia's top breakfast program.

While in Melbourne for a Sunrise segment, the presenter recorded a TikTok video to inform followers of his "confronting" discovery. "Life was good until I got the message my book had been reduced to $1," he said in his video.

Sam was then seen pausing for a moment to "contemplate" his book's rather massive price drop. After that, he headed straight to Kmart to find out what the retail store valued more than his book. (Basically, anything that was priced more than a dollar…)

The star of Channel 7 was disappointed, to say the least, to see such "confronting" results.

While he was roaming around at Kmart, Sam noticed that a dog-food scooper cost six times as much as his book. He also noticed that a pair of Groucho novelty glasses cost twice as much.

"What sort of loser would pay that for novelty glasses? I was rattled," said the weatherman. "But there had to be more to the story."

While searching for answers, Sam found a Kmart employee pushing a trolley of boxes and asked him if any of them contained fresh copies of his book.

The confused employee, however, only gave a "No" in response.

Sadly for Sam, the attacks continued as he moved towards the book section.

He zoomed in on an autobiography by Will Smith that was fetching 22 times the price of his book. Mocking Smith's infamous Oscars Night Slap, Sam jokingly ‘slapped’ the book from its shelf. "Even the book section was confronting," he said.

After leaving the books section, Sam paused to listen to the music playing inside Kmart before continuing his search for items with a higher value than his book.

After that, he looked around and found a pack of TicTacs with a price tag of $2, which he eventually decided to buy.

The employee manning the register heard him say, "Twice the value of my book," before adding, "I learned the painful truth."

"My book, my life, my story is worth half a packet of TicTacs. Thanks, Kmart," said the weatherman.

But it wasn't all bad for the Sunrise celebrity. Later on, he finally found an item that cost less than a dollar – a 75-cent Curly Wurly. He sneered at the chocolate bar and said, "In your face Curly Wurly, I'm worth more than you."

Sam's hilarious response to the news of his book dropping to $1 received praise from his followers, with many describing it as "priceless."

One follower even wrote that they're "crying of laughter" after watching his video, with a second one agreeing and saying, "I'm so sorry for laughing…"

Meanwhile, a third user who admitted they didn't know Sam Mac before the issue commented, "I don't know who you are but I feel like buying your book now!"

Sam has a penchant for making fun of the hosts of Sunrise, Natalie Barr and David Koch, as well as for being hilarious in his antics. Recently, he went to a highly classified gold refinery, and while he was there, he made a remark about Kochie's pay.

Sam remarked as he stood in front of gold bars valued at $30 million: "So the next time Kochie signs off his annual salary, this is what they bring into the boardroom."

Check out the video of him singing a 'rewritten' version of Lizzo's hit song Good as Hell as part of the live weather crosses at Peninsula Villages if you want to see some more of his hilarious antics!

I love Sam Mac and I got ripped off. I bought his book which was a great read for $20 a few months ago. Nevermind! It was worth the 20 bucks.
