Woolworths customers will be expecting a new item in their local store's egg aisle in the coming days as the retailer announced the roll out of liquid egg products in its stores nationwide.

In partnership with Aussie egg brand Sunny Queen, the retail giant will be stocking up pre-prepped pouches of Scrambled Eggs and Egg Whites on its shelves.

Sunny Queen described the new products as a combination of “convenience, health and nutrition”, claiming that the products were all made with 100 per cent Aussie eggs with no artificial colours or flavours, in easy-to-use resealable pouches.

The new products received mixed reactions from shoppers who are confused about them.

It should be noted that the sale of pre-peeled, boiled eggs has stirred controversy among Aussies before.

However, Sunny Queens stated that it is poised that the liquid eggs will be a hit among customers.

The media release read: “Products like pre-grated cheese and pre-chopped vegetables have become the norm on tables and used in meal prepping around Australia and as such, will this new way of enjoying and consuming more eggs."

It should be noted that the liquid egg pouches are made with recyclable packaging, which aligns with the retailer's sustainability missions which saw a reduction of more than 9,000 tonnes of plastics in landfills since its first implementation in 2017.

Sunny Queen Marketing and Innovation General Manager Isabelle Dench said that the company is working on delivering convenience to its customers without compromising on "taste, health, and nutrition".

Ms Dench quipped: “With our two new products, Scrambled Egg Mix and 100% Egg Whites, we have a solution for busy bees, families and people seeking a healthy and convenient product that contains a valuable source of protein and is also simple and quick to prepare by anyone in the family."

“Trends show that consumers want convenient, time-saving food and are increasingly interested in supporting Aussie farmers and buying Aussie-made products.

“We are all time poor and becoming more and more health conscious, and therefore, nutritious, easy and guilt-free food is shaping the way forward changing the perception of ready-made products from ‘guilty pleasures’ to ‘simple and healthy pleasures’ – because now you really can have both.”

The liquid egg products cost $6.90.

It should be noted, however, that the cost of a carton of a dozen eggs at Woolworths ranges from $3.60 to $6.70, which is significantly cheaper than the egg pouch. We found a dozen extra large free range eggs for $4.50, which comes in at 700 grams, whereas the egg pouches appear to only come in 500-gram varieties and cost roughly 50% more.

Are these on the shelves or in the chill cabinets. I think the egg whites would be ok for pavlova etc because you end up with a bunch of left over yokes

Egg whites I can understand, if you like making meringues or you've been medically advised to avoid yolks. But scrambled eggs? The mind boggles...

Create more and more lazy people, only 3 min to beat eggs to make scramble eggs it does not too much reduce your time to check your facebook, instragram etc. By the way this is the way for CEO of Sunny Eggs to get more bonus from claiming that it is a new product never mind that it is useless, America MBA text book. Far too expensive for a family on an average income.

The company should not rely on 'extra processing' cost to justify the high price.

The production for this new format should be akin to cost of traditional packaging.

Now, I 'm lazy, I know it and embrace it but even I draw the line at somebody else scrambling my eggs for me! Just how much time are you going to be saving? I enjoy taking out my frustrations beating the s**t out of the eggs, very satisfying!!!!

What a great EGG-celent story!!

This is not new to the Commercial Food Industry!!

Hospitals, Hotels, Aged care homes, and other establishments, have had this, and powered eggs (just add water, easier to store, long shelf life) for many years !!

Now, egg producers are looking to promote this as "convenient for the consumer", but it does come at price.

They will be available initially from Woolworths, in the chiller section

As far as I’m concerned the current packaging for eggs (shell and recycled paper box) are already environmentally friendly - it takes just as long to crack an egg as to open a bag - so I don’t think I need this product at all!
