Visitors in Perth find their cars covered in notes warning them to stay away

Sculptures by the Sea is a unique and unforgettable spectacle that brings art lovers, beach-goers and talented sculptors to Australia’s gorgeous coastline.

Now in its 26th year of showcasing the fantastic talent of sculptors worldwide, this event draws visitors from near and far to enjoy its remarkable artistic creations while admiring the spectacular beauty of the Australian beaches.

Over the years, festival attendees have celebrated its stunning combination of nature, art and creativity, as towering structures reach towards the sky as much as intricate pieces inviting closer inspection.

Sculptures by the Sea is more than just an art exhibition. It's an opportunity for visitors to connect with nature, immerse themselves in the stunning beauty of the Australian coastline, and experience the wonder of human creativity in a truly unique way. This is an event to be savoured by anyone of any age, a sensory experience that is as awe-inspiring as it is humbling.

Currently located at the beautiful Cottesloe beach in Western Australia, this year’s Sculptures by the Sea festival was supposed to be the perfect day out for tourists and locals alike. That is until one unsuspecting car owner had the shock of their life upon returning to their vehicle.

The visitor was surprised to find their vehicle covered in notes warning them to stay away.

The messages are all variants of the same message – all telling the driver, who is assumed not to be a local of the area, to stay away.

One note read: ‘Do you live here? No, thought so. Don't park here again, you nerd.’

'Don't park here again because my uncle is a state kickboxing champion and will give you a wedgie,' reads another, in a rather absurd and bold manner.

Others are a little more stern, warning the driver about their poor parking and the issues it may cause the residents.

'Can you read? Residents-only. Move your vehicle,' says another note.

'You've parked pretty badly,' reads another, angry at the driver for being inconsiderate.

The Cottesloe Council has yet to make any comments about the incident.

  • If you're not a resident of an area, please remember to be considerate when it comes to parking and to avoid inconveniencing locals.

With tourists travelling from all corners of Australia and the world to visit this unique event, it's understandable that residents would feel pressure from more and more people taking up spaces on their turf.

However, some rules need to be followed, and trespassing and parking in someone else's space is not acceptable.

It is always best to behave in a way that respects the residents and to refrain from doing anything that might cause trouble or inconvenience for them.

If it's reserved for residents then find another park even if you have to get off your lazy butt and walk away

I now live in Perth (12 months) and would love to see the sculptures. I won't go though because the parking is horrendous and parking fines are abundant. The area has a dreadful reputation for parking fines. 5 mts over will cost you $100

A bit rude I think.

The residents need to think that by tourist coming into their area it will also bring money to the local business.

I've been to a few sculptures by the sea and love it.

This event is as it says ...by the Sea and it is public space and public beach.
Parking is the same for those going to the beach

I remember going to I think it was the first sculptures by the sea at cronulla maybe 20 years ago where the sculptures were all made out of sand

It has become bigger and now from Bondi to Tamarama Beach, and is sculptures made out of all different metals ect.

You always have trouble finding parking but no harder than when you drive for a visit to the beach

If it's a residents' parking only zone, the discourteous visitor deserves all the (written) abuse he/she attracts. He/she should consider himself/herself fortunate to have not encountered one of the angry residents.

Was it a residents only parking zone? I don’t think it says so in the article. If not, and parking is allowed, then the parking is perfectly legal. This screams of Nimbyism!

Not enough information about the parking. Is it residents only? Is it public parking? Are they parking on a nature strip? Need information to make a informative comment

Look's like a teenager has written these. However, using business envelopes. It won't be hard for the police to track whoever down.
