Now this is a memory that transcends time and generations: being Mum’s cheeky little plus-one on her grocery trips. Doesn’t everything in this picture give off a major blast from the past? The way the lady’s probably having a yarn with the storekeeper, or how the kid eyes lollies inside the glass case… How about you? Did you have any special memories while out with parents on trips like these? Tell us below!

And, of course, if you have musings of your own about days long past, always feel free to post here on our forum!

Walking home from school we would call into Harrys General Store and ask for the ends of devon rolls and ask for any broken biscuits! Yes, you would remember if you are a senior citizen.

Oh for the days when shopkeepers knew you by name and were always up for a yarn. When going to the corner shop was a chance to catch up on the local gossip and solve the problems of the world...

Back in the 60s if we were lucky enough to go to town on shopping day, only 1 or 2 at most, if we were well behaved and mum had a bit of money left, we all got a chocolate heart ice block to eat in the car on the way home. It was such a great treat. The kids left at home got to have ice creams in a cone when we got home, so didn’t miss out entirely. We all had to take turns going to town, there were eight of us kids then, grew to ten in the early 70s.
