However, as we gear up for the big day, there's a little problem that we all need to be on the lookout for. It seems that some supermarkets are trying to pull a fast one on us by hiking up the price of chocolate.

This underhanded move is causing many to raise their eyebrows in disapproval, as they are paying much more for the same old chocolatey treats due to the increased demand during the love season.

It's a bitter pill to swallow, but we must stay alert and avoid falling for this sweet trap!

Speaking of exorbitantly priced chocolate, there is one example that has been making the rounds on social media recently.

Radio personalities Abbie Chatfield and Rohan Edwards were left shocked when they stumbled upon a Ferrero Rocher Cone at their local Coles supermarket, only to be met with a jaw-dropping price tag.

The Ferrero Rocher Cone, touted as a Valentine's Day gift, is retailing for a whopping $200 - yes, you heard that right. And just when you thought it couldn't get any more unbelievable, we did some math. A 30-piece pack can be yours for only $22, bringing the cost per piece to $0.73.

According to the product description, this chocolate cone is said to contain 96 pieces. So, shouldn’t the 96-pack only set us back a mere $70?

The mind-boggling cost of this sweet treat has sent the internet into a frenzy, with the video quickly going viral and accumulating thousands of views, shares, and comments.

'Two hundred dollars? Why is it not locked up or something?' wrote one user. Another added, 'That has to be a typo or something because what...'

While this is indeed a frustrating problem, let's take a closer look at why chocolates cost more around Valentine's Day.

Naturally, as the holiday of love draws near, demand skyrockets, with love birds everywhere clamouring for heart-shaped boxes of chocolates. And here's the catch, when demand goes up, so does the price!

And it's not just the demand that's causing headaches, supply chain woes are also to blame. Shortages of essential ingredients, such as cocoa, can make your favourite treats a bit harder (and pricier) to come by.

Let's not forget about the power of packaging and branding. Chocolatiers go all out with special, love-themed boxes and branding, which can add an extra layer of cost to your sweets.

And last but not least, there are the limited-time offers. Retailers know that love is in the air, and they're taking advantage by offering exclusive Valentine's Day treats, further driving up the price of your chocolates.

So, next time you're feeling the love (and the pain of your wallet), just remember - it's all for the sweetest holiday of the year!

It's not freight, it's blatant money gouging, the funny thing with the freight excuse is that so many things the same have different price rises due to freight, wouldn't you think it would be the same amount, if a bottle of cordial is 750ml and one brand goes up by one dollar due to freight, why is the other brand going up by two dollars for the same size and shape bottle. Chocolates all come on the same truck as a rule, yet the freight varies for them all??

Members, have you come across any shockingly expensive chocolate like this in your local supermarket? Share your stories and thoughts in the comments below!

When will these companies learn that "50% of something is better than 100% of nothing!" It stands to reason that if prices are lower, then more people will buy and profits will remain the same. As it stands, these products will go stale before they are sold!
