Imagine witnessing this: A shopper walks up to the entrance of a bustling BIG W store, then without warning, they go on a violent rampage.
A video of this happening has been doing the rounds on social media, receiving hundreds of thousands of views and sending shock waves across the nation.
The footage, caught by a bloke named Josh, shows the unidentified man repeatedly kicking at the security scanners at the entrance of BIG W Sunshine in Melbourne, while some onlookers, staff and security watch.
The man could also be heard shouting, though whatever he was saying couldn’t be discerned. He then starts aggressively grabbing at the barriers, before snapping them in half and bringing them to the ground.
The alarming incident was filmed by a bystander watching from the opposite side of the shopping centre.
However, it is the bizarre action of the disgruntled shopper after his rampage that has left many scratching their heads.
Right in the middle of the mess he created, he can distinctly be seen picking up something—a BIG W catalogue, according to reports—and heading back into the store, allegedly to continue shopping!
In true Aussie fashion, users were quick to find the humour in the situation. What caught their attention was the rather ‘sassy’ way the man stormed off.
'The way he walked off—like he was Kath from Kath & Kim,' one social media user noted.
‘That strut doesn't match the anger he suffers,’ another said.
Meanwhile, others took time to point out that security didn’t do its job in the incident.
‘Soooo what’s the security getting paid for,’ one user said, as another added: ‘Good work, security. Just watch.’
However, in a second video Josh uploaded, the man could be seen restrained by what appears to be security personnel.
As of writing, it remains unclear what caused the man distress.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson from BIG W has commented on the incident: 'Our first priority is always keeping our customers and team safe. We are aware of this incident and can confirm that no one was hurt, and it was reported to the police.’
'We are disappointed that a customer compromised the safety of our team and customers, and we continue to ensure everyone in our stores is treated with respect,’ they added.
‘[We] expect our customers to do the same when shopping in our stores.'
