Old school bank days

Now, isn’t this nostalgic! Who here remembers their school bank book? Back then, you had to earn your ‘pocket money’, it certainly wasn’t something you just received freely. Everyone did something different. Some would save all of their pocket money, some would save the majority and spend some of it on a treat from the milk bar, and others wouldn’t save at all! Which one were you? And do you remember successfully saving any money using your bank book? Tell us in the comments below!

I am a Retired Banker who well recalls attending Schools before they opened Classes for "School Banking". It was such a pleasure. We had a Stamp Machine with many different stamp values eg. 10,20.50 cents and $1. The Deposit amount was impressed on a Pink Card with about 20 squares for the imprints which, when full, would be transferred to the Pass Book as one transaction and a new Card issued. It was a bit cheeky of the Banks as interest only accrued on the Book Deposits. Card deposits were "Free" money!!

I’ve still got mine in my things from the past box😍

I remember school banking , when they would collect them in a large plastic folder and return the day after.

I never used school banking but did save and my grandmother used to take me to what was known as The Wales or Bank Of New South Wales Bank . I still have my bank book which was a light pink book with snow white on the front

I’ve got the grey one like above but we were allowed to do our own banking. We lived in black rock which was a sleepy seaside town back then. Now it’s turned into a “yuppies” paradise with million dollar houses etc.oh the good old days😍😍

I was a teacher who collected children's savings and recorded them in bank books identical to the one pictured here. Banking was done on one day of the week before school and the savings written up then the cash was put into a small calico bag with the Paperwork and taken to the local Commonwealth. Some of the children saved their pocket money regularly and developed a very healthy respect for the benefits of saving.

I know she’s my bestest friend she talked sense into me and stopped me from drinking .if it wasn’t for her I’d probably be the old bag lady with cat on the street. And believe it or not that was October last year so I’m 12 months sober this month.thats why I broke my hip cos of booze. So I do it for her she’s my guardian angel.😍she orders my groceries,my bills everything. And that’s all from cairns.so I reckon I’m a lucky 🍀 old ducky😹and I’m happy for the first time in 5 years. Hence my wacky sense of humour.😈 Once was rich now I’m broke but I’m a happy broke old bag.money don’t buy happiness.
I just did something very rare. I got all emotional when I read your post. You sound like the female version of me but without the sister (or brother for that matter}. I'm an only child. When I asked Mum if I could have a baby brother to play with, she replied "I wouldn't unleash another you on this world!" Anyway she would have been about 45 back then. Too old.

I've got about $5.50 until payday Tuesday! o_O

Twelve months ago, I would have spent it on a $5 bottle of Aldi Keeper's Glove Port.

It's a well known fact that I'm a real bastard at times. But it's true. I was born on August 1, 1959 🐴 but my parents weren't married until October 10, 1965! I just thought it was a typo on my birth certificate. And I didn't know Mum was first married as a 19 year old until I found a marriage certificate after her death. 😲

Wow🙀I was born on July 1st 1958 I’m a crab.

i was a vodka and water chick😁I still can’t believe I spent hundreds of dollars on booze a week and no food.at least I remembered to feed my bubba.😍and you know what I had a liver test and my livers perfect after decades of drinking.my sisters nearly fainted when the test came back.😈no mango munching for you then😋
You drew the right cards with your liver. I just was dealt a dud hand. Too bad I was the dealer of those cards.

It is what it is but life goes on🙀i only drank water with vodka and of course booze makes you thirsty so I drank gallons of water.😁that probably helped.drinking stuffed up my bones though apparantely I have the bones of a 500 year old skeleton.😹
Water was not my friend. Most people have probably drank more water in one year than I've drunk in my lifetime.
