Interesting State/ Suburb/ Town Nicknames​

Popping in to ask you all, what are the most interesting Aussie location nicknames you've heard?

This started because Sydney seems to have lost its title as the Emerald City, or Harbour City. Apparently, it's even called the Nanny State now!

Queensland, of course, is the Sunshine State and Brisbane has been heralded Brisvegas.

We Aussies love adding suffixes to words or abbreviating them, such as Freo (Fremantle), Osty (Austinmer), Brissie (Brisbane), Wello (Wellington), Mullum (Mullumbimby), The Gong (Wollongong) and The Doo (Humpty Doo).

Some nicknames go back to early settlement, such as Vandemania (Tasmania) and the popular rhyming slang Steak ‘n’ Kidney for Sydney.

It doesn't have to be your suburb but what interesting nicknames have you heard Aussie locations referred to as? Have you heard all the names above?

Victorians are known as 'Cabbage Patchers'.
The Garden State is known as the 'Cabbage Patch' due to its small size.

When I was at college back in the 1960s, one of the lecturers, whose surname was Woodcock, told us that in his younger days he got called 'Penis Radiata'.
For those who are unfamiliar with woodworking - Pinus Radiata is a type of wood.

I have one, the houses in Ashgrove where I grew up. Instead of calling our lovely Queenslanders by this name known to all, I have seen them called 'Ashgrovians', to me this is an unnecessary affectation to differentiate those who currently live there from those who don't.

New starter at work got the nickname JUNGLE within an hour because he was green and dense.
Lazy guy at work got the name BLISTER, he showed up after the hardwork had been done.
