Get your daily dose of vitamins in a DELICIOUS way with this homemade gummies recipe!

There is a good reason that many multivitamins come in chewable gummy form these days – it's an easy and convenient way to get kids (and grandkids) to ‘take their medicine’ without an argument ensuing...

If we’re being honest, even as adults we often prefer them to tablets or capsules. There’s something about chewing on a lolly and getting to feel a little virtuous while we do it.

We all know how easy it is to forget about taking your multivitamin in the morning rush, but gummies are a quick and convenient way to make sure you get your daily dose.

On the other hand, some of the vitamin gummies that can be purchased in stores are loaded with sugar (in some cases, even high fructose corn syrup) and contain a lot of artificial flavours (and can often be pricier than more conventional tablets or capsules, to boot).

You definitely don't want to include any of these in your family's diet! So what can you do instead?

As it turns out, you can just make your own vitamin gummies at home – and it's actually really simple! Rather than buying sugar-laced gummies in stores, making your own healthier alternative at home sounds like a much better option.

For those of you who are interested in making your own nutrient-packed gummies, nutritionist and mum Sheridan Austin is here to share her recipe.

Here are the ingredients you will need:
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup mango OR berries (may use blueberry, strawberry, or raspberry, or a mixture of all)
  • 4 tbsps gelatine
  • This is optional but you can also add a sweetener of your choice, such as monk fruit, stevia, maple syrup, or honey (not recommended for babies)
  • Additional optional nutrient bombs such as 1 tbsp of liposomal vitamin C and/or quercetin

And the instructions for preparing the recipe are as follows:

In a container, first combine 1 cup of water, your prefered fruit, sweetener (if desired), and the nutrient bombs. Mix them thoroughly, then put them aside.

The next step is to mix the remaining half cup of water with the four tablespoons of gelatine and continue stirring until there are no longer any granules visible.

Mix the gelatine solution with the fruit mixture that was prepared earlier, and then stir the two together using a spoon. Because you don't want to end up with foam and bubbles, you should avoid blending the ingredients together and be careful not to mix them too much.

Pour the mixture into the moulds of your choice, then chill them for a few hours so the gummies can harden completely.

Take them out after a while, slice, and enjoy!

Please note that the information contained in this recipe is not intended to be regarded as professional medical advice. Please do not attempt to replace any vitamins or supplements that your doctor has prescribed for you with these homemade gummy multivitamins.

Additionally, even though these gummies are made to be loaded with important nutrients, they lack the "mega-dose" found in some supplements. For those who are dealing with certain vitamin deficiencies, it is important to adhere to the recommendations made by your doctor.
