We recommend checking your microwave once a week to see if it needs cleaning, whether it be a quick wipe-down or a more thorough session. This will help you avoid any unpleasant surprises in the future.

For all three methods, start by removing the microwave turntable. You can wash this by hand or pop it in the dishwasher for convenience.

Now, let's dive into the three simple tricks!

Method #1: The classic cleaning solution.

What you’ll need:
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Water
  • Microfibre cloth
Combine equal parts of vinegar and water in a microwave-safe bowl. Pop the bowl in the microwave and heat it on high until the solution comes to a boil.

Once you remove the bowl carefully (mind the steam!), you can take a damp microfibre cloth to wipe down the entire microwave interior easily. The tough stains should slide right off without any hassle.

Method #2: A trusted ingredient does wonders for cleaning.

What you’ll need:
  • Bicarb soda
  • Water
  • Microfibre cloth

Mix a few tablespoons of bicarb soda with a few cups of water in a microwave-safe bowl. Stir until the bicarb soda dissolves.

Then, place the bowl in the microwave and heat it on high until you can see steam. The microwave’s door should remain closed until the mixture cools slightly. Then, use your microfibre cloth to wipe down the inside of the microwave.

Method #3: The less fussy yet effective trick for those in a hurry.

What you’ll need:
  • Six paper towels soaked in warm water
  • Clean paper towels or a microfibre cloth
Place a soaked paper towel on the microwave floor, ceiling, and each of the walls inside. Heat the microwave on high until steam starts to appear.

When you remove the paper towels, most of the mess will come off with them. Then, just dry the microwave's interior with clean paper towels or your microfibre cloth.

An added tip: Don’t forget to clean your microwave filter.

For those with an over-the-range microwave (meaning it’s mounted above your stove with a light and exhaust fan), don't forget to clean the filter! This process is just as simple.

Gently remove the filter and let it soak in warm, soapy water for a while. Then, give it a good scrub with a sponge or a brush, rinse and leave it to dry entirely before placing it back.

So, there you have it, folks – three quick and easy ways to give your trusty microwave a well-deserved clean. Not only will these techniques save you time, but they're also cost-effective, using everyday household items.
Key Takeaways
  • Cleaning your microwave regularly can prevent messes and buildup from becoming a problem.
  • Three easy cleaning methods include using vinegar and water, bicarb soda and water, or the paper towel method.
  • Proper cleaning of your microwave doesn't require special cleaners, just some time and elbow grease.
  • If your microwave has a filter, be sure to clean it by soaking it in warm, soapy water and hand washing it.
Happy cleaning, and may your future microwave adventures be filled with delicious snacks and sparkling surfaces!

I am another lemon devotee. I just blitz it in the microwave then microfibre it off.
Also, every time I use my micro, I always wipe it quickly with a paper towel whilst there is moisture in there. Cuts down on the bigger clean later.
Don't forget to occasionally pull the microwave off it's normal spot and clean underneath it. Amazing what collects under there.

I found that just throwing in a damp cloth, microwave on high, letting plenty of steam build up inside the unit. Then just wipe it out with a cloth or tea towel. Leave it open to completely dry. No mess, no fuss, no bad smell. DONE.

I have one of those "Angry Housewife" thingies, put a squirt of lemon and water stick in on high for a minute and it steams up the inside and I wipe it out. Easy peasy
