'It comes down to what the consumer wants': Finance giants showcase the possible future of shopping

Bugger this. Not my cup of tea at all. With more time ( now in my dotage) I actually enjoy the challenges of scrolling the weekly specials and cutting the grocery bill. Some piece of plastic, programmed by a person or company, that I've never met, isn't getting that much insight into my life...

    General Discussion Thread 20.05.2025

I'd probably sit by the nearest body of water, preferrably under a tree and finish my book. In the remaining time I would probably read another one, then just sit, quietly, soaking up nature, looking at the stars. Making peace with Mother Nature if at all possible.

Coles and Woolies pay hidden $6 million cost, ALDI stays out

I prefer to shop in quiet, but can't stand Aldi. With Woolies, Coles and even IGA, you can be reasonably sure that what you need will be available when you shop. With Aldi you inevitably have to visit one of the other stores to finish your shopping. Both Coles and Woolies have a quiet time for...

'Fire the bloke': Baseball fans stunned after witnessing gross incident mid-game

Honestly? Who gives a sh*t? I get so tired of all things American, especially their obsession with all things pooh and fart related. No wonder they voted for a dumpster-fire of a president.

‘Corrupt, incompetent and treasonous’: Bruce Springsteen’s fierce warning on stage

They have the same rights and resposibilities as Joe Average and if they have access to a much larger audience good on them.

Aussie council rules threaten hefty fines, new confiscation rules

Great, let's just kick some poor bugger again, just when they've reached the lowest point in their lives. Very unAustralian, if you ask me. The councils should be putting time and energy into solving the problem of homelessness, instead of employing 'compliance enforcers' to inflict further harm.

Aussie council launches crackdown after heated debate in parking spaces. Will your vehicles be safe?

Thankfully we don't live in a city or on a busy road. My only complaint is with the width of the street which makes it impossible to park at all.

Are these the healthiest nuggets you can buy? One Aussie says they’re a game changer

That works out at $3 for every 100 grams. It's pretty pricey for a family in the current environment.

Secret speed camera feature catches drivers faces $1800 fine

No. But a lot of years ago Victoria had a very visible police force, and during that period speeding offenses dropped dramatically.

Secret speed camera feature catches drivers faces $1800 fine

Just my opinion, a very visible police presence has always been more of a deterent than any number of hidden cameras. Speeding drivers only find out they've been fined after the fact. Visible police would deter drivers from speeding in the first place.

'Aussies still want me': Controversial medical figure wants bold comeback

I believe his problems began with the 'informed consent' issue.

ATO shares new plans to aid Aussies during tax return season

Ask me again after it's been running for a few years. I want to see what glitches occur (as they do with most things new), and how the subsequent upgrades improve matters, before 'throwing my hat in the ring'.

'Aussies still want me': Controversial medical figure wants bold comeback

I believe ( correct me if I'm wrong) that Charlie Teo's problems began, not with a failure of his skills, although the operation was not a success, but a failure in communicating the risks to the patient. After this everything he did was up for intense scrutiny.

Bindi Irwin misses the annual commemorative dinner for her late father! What happened?

Whilst I feel for the lass suffering Endometriosis ( as a past fellow sufferer) is any of this really newsworthy? I can point to numerous people on my street with far more serious health problems. Unfortunately, Joe Average Australian, does not have the same resources to jet off to the US for...

Woolworths slashes prices on hundreds of staples. Here's what it means for your weekly shop

I have actually been in my local Woolies when 2 of it's 'odd bunch' items were more expensive than the same item on the display. The disadvantage in buying 'odd bunch' produce is that it generally comes bagged in 1kg lots. So you are being penalised twice. It really pays to keep your eyes open...

‘It’s already here’: Expert’s warning as Australia edges closer to a cashless future

I know of at least one NSW town that has only one ATM and if you don't grab your cash on the day it's filled, you go without. This ATM recently switched from accepting all cards to accepting only it's own brand. There is no bank in this town and the PO carries very little cash.
