Most Older Australians Aren’t In Aged Care. Policy Blind Spots Mean They Live In Communities That Aren’t Age-friendly

I happened to be at a University graduation ceremony where a student was awarded a PhD on the causes of the variation in the length of rats tails. The above article appears to fall into that category.

You won't believe this genius hack for peeling apples that one dad was caught trying!

I got mine from House about 10 years ago. Still going strong, and wasn't very expensive. I always have lots of apples to peel and cook, I have access to an apple tree, so it's a worthwhile machine for me.

You won't believe this genius hack for peeling apples that one dad was caught trying!

That was SO quick. I use an apple peeler when I have lots of apples to peel. It's also very quick and effective. It can peel, core and slice the apples.

This 10-year-old was told she’d never walk again - now she’s a champion triathlete

Just excuse me for a moment, I've got dust in my eyes and my vision is blurred. Just wait a tic while my eyes wash the dust away! What a mighty trooper, she certainly knows how to soldier on. Go girl, Go!! I think her family may have been told that she would never walk, rather than never walk...

I often see glass jars in boxes in the doorway of several Op Shops near me..... "Free" or "Help yourself". If they get too many, they give them away.

Counting From Left To Right Feels ‘Natural’ – But New Research Shows Our Brains Count Faster From Bottom To Top

Oh my, I feel your pain. When my son was 21, it finally dawned on me that he has some sort of peculiar learning difficulty. I knew he retained every word he ever heard or read, but couldn't write anything down, including words or numbers. He agreed to be tested, and I finally found someone at...

Counting From Left To Right Feels ‘Natural’ – But New Research Shows Our Brains Count Faster From Bottom To Top

Interesting, I always wondered how they worked. When I saw a container of them, all I saw were blocks. Yes, I realised that the smaller ones were broken down into percentages of the long ones, but I wondered how that taught the littlies to count, add up and subtract and multiply and divide. I...

I've always wondered about those coloured Cuisenaire Rods.....they were after my time. Did they work? Did that system last very long?

Can you guess what this mysterious extra basin next to the sink is for?

It says it didn't have any plumbing, so any water you put in there would have to be scooped out. Lot of effort, I'd say.

Counting From Left To Right Feels ‘Natural’ – But New Research Shows Our Brains Count Faster From Bottom To Top

My Mum was a brilliant comptomitor. She was incredibly fast and 100% accurate. At the times of the year when all the books had to be done, eg tax time, quarterly etc, Mum's firm would send her home in a taxi with piles of books and a Burroughs Adding machine. What Mum did in a weekend, the firm...

What things do Aussies think are major money wasters in the modern-day?

Waste of money advertising feminine hygiene products. Waste of money buying bottled water unless the water in your area is unpalatable.

Serving Up Choice And Dignity In Aged Care – How Meals Are Enjoyed Is About More Than What’s On The Plate

I completely understand, I have been on that road with several elderly friends whose families didn't care. Hearing is the last sense to go, so even if they stop responding, keep talking to them, keep singing hymns, they can hear you there. I remember a dear friend some years ago, I sang hymns to...

Serving Up Choice And Dignity In Aged Care – How Meals Are Enjoyed Is About More Than What’s On The Plate

I used to visit an elderly gentleman who was shoved into an expensive aged care facility by his sons after their Mother died. I watched this man decline rapidly, transforming from an active, interesting man into a blob who didn't want to be alive. Meal times were a shocker....we couldn't...
