My point is (not clearly expressed) is that when we have tourists here, they are expected to speak a little English (or if you like 'Orstraylan') but when we visit other countries the reverse applies, they are expected to understand us??? double standard?

Or more likely learn to speak Mandarin!

For a country that makes heaps out of tourism they are intolerant and rude. If you try to speak (bad) French to them they pretend not to understand and refuse to converse in English, which most can speak quite well. Banks & businesses are the worst! If they are trying to sell you something...
